Dishwasher Maintenance Tips

These days when we are back from a well-deserved vacation and we are beginning to prepare for going back to school and to the work routine, it is the best time to take advantage of and fine-tune the appliances that we use the most at home, as is the case with the dishwasher.

As we have discussed in previous posts, the dishwasher has become a fundamental part of our home. It is one of the appliances that helps us the most in our day to day life and saves us a lot of time, giving us the opportunity to invest it in other more important things.

For this reason, it is essential to properly maintain the dishwasher and tune it up whenever necessary. To do this, below we will tell you the best practices to take care of your dishwasher and the set-up that you can do if you want to extend the life of this fantastic appliance!

Tips for good dishwasher maintenance

1. Remove food scraps

Although it seems obvious, the first thing we have to take into account is not to leave food residues on the plates and cutlery when putting them in the dishwasher. It is not necessary to clean the dishes beforehand, since that is what we have this appliance for, but it is important to remove the leftover food. This will help us not to clog the pipes and take care of the dishwasher filter.

2. Clean dishwasher filter

As we have mentioned in the previous point, the accumulated food remains can clog the dishwasher filter, one of the main elements that allow it to function correctly. To avoid this and keep it working like the first day, it is important to clean the dishwasher filter from time to time. According to experts, it is recommended to clean the filter every two to three months. To do this, we only need to remove the filter from the dishwasher and remove the accumulated dirt, it is very simple and fast!

If we are not careful enough with the filter or our dishwasher is already several years old, it is likely that over time it will break down. Luckily, at REMLE we have a wide variety of filters for the dishwasher, so you can find the one that best suits your appliance!

3. Properly distribute the dishwasher load

When it comes to putting the dishes in the dishwasher, it is important to maintain a correct distribution. Each dishwasher is designed to have different spaces depending on the type of plate, pot, glass or cutlery that we want to put. For example, there is a part of the dish basket that is wider than another, since it is prepared for the deepest dishes or pots. On the other hand, there is another part of the dishwasher basket prepared for the flatter and larger dishes, since placing them in this place will allow us to clean them correctly and without the risk of colliding with the propellers at the top. And so on... in this way we will achieve a correct cleaning of all the elements that we put in the dishwasher.

4. Fill the dishwasher for more efficient cleaning

Apart from a correct location of all the elements that we include in the dishwasher, it is important that it is always as full as possible! This will allow us to achieve the maximum efficiency of the appliance and therefore a better operation.

But beware! If we overfill the dishwasher and overload it, this can cause there to not be enough space between dishes for them to clean properly. So take advantage of the spaces but without going overboard.

5. Keep the dish basket and cutlery basket in good condition

As with the filter, it is important to keep the dish and cutlery basket of the dishwasher clean, as this will extend its useful life to the maximum. But if a part of the basket breaks... Should I buy a new dishwasher?

There's no need! At REMLE we also have spare parts for the dishwasher basket, both for plates and cutlery for the main brands on the market: BOSCH, BEKO, BALAY, MIELE, INDESIT, TEKA, SAMSUNG, LG...

6. Use of salt against accumulated lime

Especially indicated for those homes located in areas where the water contains a high amount of lime (for example, Barcelona), it is important to use a special salt to decalcify the dishwasher. A buildup of limescale in this appliance can seriously damage it, causing it to stop working properly over time.

7. After the program has finished, put the dishes away as soon as possible

It is true that there are days when we are too lazy to empty the dishwasher, but it is important to try to prevent this from happening too often! Keeping the dishes clean inside the dishwasher once the program has finished will cause a large amount of humidity and a bad smell, eliminating the feeling of cleanliness.

With all this, taking care of your dishwasher will be very simple. If you do proper maintenance and follow the above instructions, prepare for it to last for many years!
